Acrylic on masonite, 16"x19"
I'm in this "into to painting" course this semester because I suck ass at traditional painting and figured I should force myself to learn. The first assignment thing we've been doing is a few self portraits, this one was supposed to be in neutrals and use the ground of the masonite in some part of it. The neutral part kind of got away from me a bit.
While everyone else in my class does streamlined and beautified self portraits, I attempt to make myself uglier than I actually am. It's mostly because I'm so sick of this over-processed airbrushed-models bullshit and the media constantly telling me I'm hideous and a horrible because of the way I look.
I'm fine with being called horrible but it really has nothing to do with my physical form.
Also this is my second painting in 5 years and my first time painting in this freer style of shading. I'm not 100% comfortable with it but I think I'll improve with more practice.
